Background
The Columbus Culture
Fest was created in 2001 as a result of our changing cultures in
Columbus and the surrounding communities. Over the past decade the
faces of Columbus have changed and our purpose was to educate the
community and build on the positive effects of the diversity in our
community. In 2003 we had attendees complete surveys to see if we are
achieving our goals. The surveys were very positive and I have attached
the results for your review.
Goal
In essence, our goal
is to “Build a Community for ALL”, encourage acceptance, understanding
and unity. Bringing Columbus together regardless of race, color, creed,
sexual orientation, or religion.
Target Population
All people are
invited and the Columbus Culture Fest is free to everyone. This event
has attracted over 6,000 people and we are continuing to grow annually.
Education
In past years, there
was a Children’s Activity Area and each child received a prize for
participating. Equality is encouraged. Prizes were donated so every
child went home with something, teaching them cultural diversity.

Non-profits
simulated their native country and its surroundings. An example: SEADEC,
serving the Somali community, created a hut, decorated the interior, and
encouraged people to come in for tea and to learn about their culture.
Many Columbus Public
Schools have joined the festivities along with daycare centers. Young
people could try food samples (free); learn dances, resources, and
languages.
